Leave: The Signs You Have Crossed the Line

The logic has outgrown the builder. No-code platforms are brilliant at simple flows and progressively harder as real logic arrives — multi-step workflows, roles and permissions, calculations, integrations that must not fail. If you have spent evenings fighting the platform to express something a sentence can describe, the tool has outgrown its home.

You are the single point of failure. You built it, so you maintain it. When it breaks on invoice morning, the fix waits for you. When you are on holiday, it holds its breath. A tool the business depends on should not depend on one person's spare time — that is a structural risk, not an inconvenience.

The per-seat meter is running on your growth. Platform pricing that was friendly at five people can turn hostile at fifteen. If the subscription line grows every time you hire, you are paying a tax on growth for a tool that does the same job regardless of headcount. The platform changed under you — twice. Features move, automations stop firing, integrations need re-authorizing, prices restructure. Once is bad luck. A pattern means your tool's stability is hostage to someone else's product roadmap, and you are the unpaid engineer who absorbs every change.

The side-spreadsheets are back. The clearest sign of all. The tool was built to replace scattered spreadsheets — and now, because of a limitation or a missing seat or a field nobody can add, the spreadsheets have quietly returned around its edges. The tool no longer holds the whole truth.

What Leaving Actually Looks Like

Owners often stay too long because they imagine migration as starting over. It is the opposite: your creaky tool is the best specification a replacement could have.
